Update on CTC’s COVID-19 Food Relief Effort for Refugees Returnees from India to the Mannar District in Sri Lanka.

The total number of Refugee Returnees from India who had recently (in 2019) returned to their places of origin in Mannar district is 116. After getting the necessary approvals from the Divisional Secretaries, OfERR Ceylon staff started to make the required arrangements to get quotations, finalizing the best supplier and ordering for the following items for the first batch of 47 families in the Mannar district.
Each relief package for one family contained 5 kg of Rice, 2 kg of Flour, 1 kg of Sugar, 500 grams of Chickpeas and 100 grams of Tea.
The distribution for the Mannar district started on April 27th, and until April 30th, OfERR was able to reach 47 refugee returnee families from 22 GN divisions in 4 DS Divisions in the Mannar District.
The food relief for refugee returnee families from India was sponsored by Canadian Tamil Congress and the Nava Wilson Professional Law Corporation.

Of the 47 families consisting of 114 members , 8 families are female headed while 4 members are persons with disabilities.
