Canadian Tamil Congress Condemns Arson Attack on Tamil One Media Vehicle and Calls for Law Enforcement Action

The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) unequivocally condemns the violent incidents that occurred during and after Tamil Fest 2024, including the arson attack on a broadcast vehicle belonging to Tamil One TV, a division of SV Media. This deliberate act of arson, which took place on August 25, 2024, follows a series of disturbing incidents at Tamil Fest, where individuals engaged in harassment, abuse, and violence against performers, volunteers, staffs, vendors, participants and service providers.
Such actions are completely unacceptable and do not reflect the Canadian values or beliefs of the Tamil community. Tamil Fest has always been a celebration of Tamil culture, unity, and heritage. It is a platform for showcasing the richness of our traditions and fostering a sense of community. The violent behavior of a few individuals cannot and will not represent the ethos of the Tamil community as a whole. We will not tolerate any actions that seek to intimidate, divide, or harm our community members and organizations that support us.

Tamil One TV was a service provider at this year’s Tamil Fest, and the attack on their vehicle is deeply troubling. These acts of violence are not only an attack on a media outlet but also an assault on the very spirit of Tamil Fest and the values it represents. The CTC calls on law enforcement authorities to take immediate and decisive action to investigate these incidents thoroughly and to bring those responsible to justice. We will provide our full cooperation and support to the authorities in their investigation.

The Canadian Tamil community has made significant contributions to the cultural fabric of this nation, and we have always been proud of our commitment to peace, respect, and community. We urge all members of the community to reject violence and uphold the values that make us strong. Let us ensure that the actions of a few do not overshadow the achievements and aspirations of our community.

We call upon all community members and leaders to come together, speak out against these acts of violence, and reaffirm our commitment to a peaceful and united community. Together, we can ensure that such incidents do not define us or our future.
