A New Dawn in Batticaloa: Celebrating the Launch of the Canada-Batticaloa Friendship Farm

On the 22nd of February, 2024, a significant stride was made towards economic sustainability and job creation in Thiraimadu, Batticaloa, with the inauguration of the Canada-Batticaloa Friendship Farm, Kail T Rajah Project. This landmark initiative, a collaborative effort between the Canadian Tamil Congress and the North and East Economic Development  (NEED) Centre, is not just about agricultural innovation but a step towards economic independence for the local community.

The centerpiece of this collaboration is the Moringa model farming project, chosen for its potential to bring about economic stability and create employment opportunities in the area.

Canadian Deputy High Commissioner for Sri Lanka and Counsellor Daniel Bood, Batticaloa Government Agent J. J. Muralitharan, Former Batticaloa Mayor Thiyagarajah Saravanapavan, Canadian Tamil Congress Executive Director Danton Thurairajah, Treasurer Thirukumaran Thirunavukarasu, Former President Sutharamoorthy Umasuthan, Sri Lanka Projects Coordinator Thushyanthan Thurairatnam were some of the many on attendance. This project’s significance in fostering international cooperation and its attended, demonstrating a strong local and national commitment to sustainable development and economic revitalization. Their presence highlighted the collective effort and shared vision towards creating a self-sustaining community in Batticaloa.

2024 ஆம் ஆண்டு பெப்ரவரி மாதம் 22 ஆம் திகதி, கனடா-மட்டக்களப்பு நட்புறவுப் பண்ணையான கெய்ல் டி ராஜா திட்டத்தின் திறப்பு விழா மட்டக்களப்பு திரைமடுவில் இடம்பெற்றது. பொருளாதார நிலைத்தன்மை மற்றும் வேலைவாய்ப்புக்களை உருவாக்குவதை நோக்கமாக கொண்டு இந்த பண்ணை உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. கனேடியத் தமிழர் பேரவை மற்றும் வடக்கு மற்றும் கிழக்கு பொருளாதார அபிவிருத்தி (நீட்) மையத்தின்  இந்த முயற்சியானது விவசாய பயிர்ச்செய்கைகளை மேம்படுத்துவதோடு, உள்ளூர் சமூக பொருளாதார சுதந்திரத்திற்கான ஒரு படியாகவும் அமையும்.

இந்த கூட்டு முயற்சியின் ஆரம்பக்கட்டமாக முருங்கை பயிர்ச்செய்கைகள் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது பொருளாதார ஸ்திரத்தன்மையைக் கொண்டு வருவதற்கும் அப்பகுதியில் வேலை வாய்ப்புகளை உருவாக்குவதற்கும் உறுதுணையாக அமையும்.

கனடா-மட்டக்களப்பு நட்புறவுப் பண்ணையின் திறப்பு விழா உள்ளூர் சமூகத்தின் செழுமைக்கான புதிய சகாப்தத்தின் தொடக்கத்தைக் குறிக்கிறது. நிலையான விவசாய நடைமுறைகளில் கவனம் செலுத்துவதன் மூலம், இந்த முயற்சி சுற்றுச்சூழலின் நல்வாழ்வை மேம்படுத்துவதோடு மட்டுமல்லாமல், நிலையான வேலை வாய்ப்புகளை உருவாக்குவதையும் உறுதி செய்கிறது.

இந்த செயற்திட்டம் பல்வேறு பின்னணியில் இருந்து தனிநபர்கள் மற்றும் அமைப்புகளை ஒன்றிணைத்து ஒரு பொதுவான இலக்கை நோக்கி செயட்படுவதோடு, நிலையான வளர்ச்சியின் மூலம் பொருளாதார சுதந்திரத்தை உருவாக்குவதாகவும் அமையும். கனடா-மட்டக்களப்பு நட்புறவுப் பண்ணை இலாப நோக்குடன் மட்டுப்படுத்தப்படாது. இது ஒற்றுமையின் சின்னம் என்பதோடு தன்னிறைவான எதிர்காலத்திற்கான கூட்டு அபிலாஷையாகும்.

இம்முயற்சியின் முக்கியத்துவத்தையும் சாத்தியமான தாக்கத்தையும் அடிக்கோடிட்டுக் காட்டும் வகையில், பல உயர்மட்ட அதிகாரிகள் இந்நிகழ்வில் கலந்துகொண்டனர். இலங்கைக்கான கனேடிய பிரதி உயர்ஸ்தானிகரும் ஆலோசகருமான டேனியல் பூட், மட்டக்களப்பு அரசாங்க அதிபர் ஜே.ஜே.முரளிதரன், முன்னாள் மட்டக்களப்பு மேயர் தியாகராஜா சரவணபவன், கனேடியத் தமிழர் பேரவையின் நிறைவேற்றுப் பணிப்பாளர் டான்டன் துரைராஜா, பொருளாளர் திருக்குமரன் திருநாவுக்கரசு, முன்னாள் தலைவர் சுத்தராமமூர்த்தி உமாசுதான், இலங்கை மனிதாபிமான திட்டங்களின் இணைப்பாளர் துஸ்யந்தன் துரைரத்தினம் என பலரும் இந்நிகழ்வில் கலந்து கொண்டனர். இவர்களின் வகையானது தாயகத்தில் தற்சார்பு சமூகத்தை உருவாக்குவதற்கான கூட்டு முயற்சி மற்றும் பார்வையைப் பகிர்ந்துகொள்வதாக அமைந்திருந்தது.

வாழ்வை மாற்றியமைக்கவும், தன்னம்பிக்கையுள்ள சமூகத்தை உருவாக்கவும் விவசாயத்தின் சக்தியில் நம்பிக்கை கொண்ட ஒவ்வொருவரையும் இந்த முயற்சியோடு இணைந்து பயணிக்க அழைக்கின்றோம். இந்தத் திட்டத்தை ஆதரிப்பதன் மூலம், ஒரு பண்ணையில் மட்டும் முதலீடு செய்யாமல், நமது சமூகம் மற்றும் அதன் மக்களின் எதிர்காலத்தில் முதலீடு செய்கிறோம்.

நிலையான மற்றும் பொருளாதார ரீதியாக சுதந்திரமான சமூகத்தை உருவாக்குதலே இதன் நீண்ட கால நோக்கமாகும்.
