Canadian Tamil Congress Hosted Presentation on “Thirukkural in World Languages” by C. Rajendiran, Highlighting Global Promotion and Cultural Insights
The Canadian Tamil Congress recently hosted a presentation titled Thirukkural in World Languages by Mr. C. Rajendiran. The presentation highlighted the background of his latest co-authored work, Thirukkural Translations in World Languages (2024), along with recommendations for how the Tamil community and governments could support the global promotion of the Thirukkural through UNESCO. Mr. Rajendiran also shared insights on selected verses of the Kural.
The event opened with remarks by Mr. Sivan Ilangko and featured the official launch of Thirukkural in World Languages. First copies of the book were presented to Mr. Thangavelu, Dr. E. Balasundram, and Mr. Kumar Ratnam.
Mr. Rajendiran’s presentation provided an in-depth exploration of the Kural, enriching attendees’ understanding of several verses, and was attended by many members of the community.
C. Rajendiran is the founder and coordinator of the Voice of Valluvar Family, an organization dedicated to fostering a society rooted in Aram (righteousness) and inspired by the universal teachings of the Thirukkural. He has authored two notable works on the Thirukkural: Thirukkural Uvamai Nayam (2007), which explores metaphors and similes within the Kural through modern interpretations, and Paamararukkum Parimel Azhagar (2018), which makes the 13th-century commentary accessible to contemporary readers.
