Canadian Tamil Congress Marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2024

On September 29th, 2024, The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) observed the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by participating in the pow wow hosted by the Chippewas of Georgina Island at Sutton District High School in Georgina, Ontario. The Pow Wow, themed “Nawendwin” (relatives), featured traditional dancing, drumming, and storytelling, offering a meaningful opportunity for CTC to engage with Indigenous culture and reflect on the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.

CTC’s annual participation in this day is a testament to its commitment to supporting Indigenous communities. By attending events like the Chippewas Pow Wow, CTC stands in solidarity with Indigenous peoples and fosters understanding through cultural exchange. More than 50 Tamil Canadians including children participated in the pow wow.

Through this involvement, CTC reaffirms its dedication to building bridges between Tamil and Indigenous communities, emphasizing the importance of unity, respect, and collective action for a more equitable future.

கனேடிய தமிழர் பேரவை 2024 ஆம் ஆண்டிற்கான உண்மை மற்றும் நல்லிணக்கத்திற்கான தேசிய தினத்தை செப்டெம்பர் 29, 2024 அன்று, ஒன்ராறியோவின் ஜோர்ஜினாவில் உள்ள சட்டன் மாவட்ட உயர்நிலைப் பள்ளியில் ஜார்ஜினா தீவின் சிப்பேவாஸ் நடத்திய பவ் வாவ் நிகழ்ச்சியில் பங்கேற்றதன் மூலம் அனுசரித்திருந்தது. பாவ் வாவ், “நாவென்ட்வின்” (உறவினர்கள்) என்ற கருப்பொருளில், பாரம்பரிய நடனம், டிரம்மிங் மற்றும் கதைசொல்லல் ஆகியவை இடம்பெற்றன, இது CTC க்கு முதல் குடிகளின் கலாச்சாரத்துடன் ஈடுபடுவதற்கும் நல்லிணக்கத்தை நோக்கிய பயணத்தை பிரதிபலிக்கும் அர்த்தமுள்ள வாய்ப்பை வழங்கியிருந்தது.

ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் கனடிய தமிழர் பேரவை உண்மை மற்றும் நல்லிணட்க்கத்திற்கான நாளை கனடாவின் முதல் குடிகளுடன் இணைந்து அனுஷ்டித்து வருகின்றமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. முதல் குடிகளுடன் இணைந்து இவ்வாறான நிகழ்வுகளில் கலந்துகொள்வதன் மூலம், CTC பழங்குடி மக்களுடன் ஒற்றுமையாக இருக்கின்றது என்பதுடன் கலாச்சார பரிமாற்றத்தின் மூலம் புரிந்துணர்வை வளர்த்துவதுகின்றது. சிறுவர்கள் உற்பட 50க்கும் மேற்பட்ட தமிழ் கனடியர்கள் பாவ் வாவ்வில் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

இவ்வாறான நிகழ்வுகளை ஒருங்கிணைப்பதன் மூலமும் கலந்துகொள்வதன் மூலமும் தமிழ் மற்றும் பழங்குடி சமூகங்களுக்கு இடையேயான நட்புறவையும் புரிந்துணர்வையும் அதிகரிப்பதில் CTC தனது அர்ப்பணிப்பை மீண்டும் உறுதிப்படுத்துகிறது. சமமான எதிர்காலத்திற்கான ஒற்றுமை, மரியாதை, கூட்டு நடவடிக்கை ஆகியவற்றின் முக்கியத்துவத்தையும் இந்த நிகழ்வு வலியுறுத்தியிருந்தது.
