Canadian Tamil Congress’s Commitment to Economic Empowerment and Development in Thennamaravadi

On Tuesday, February 25, CTC officials and project donors, visited Thennamaravadi to assess the project’s progress and engage with the women involved. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss future development plans and reinforce CTC’s ongoing commitment to empowering the local community.

Thennamaravadi is a region of critical geographical significance, serving as a vital link between Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern provinces. Ensuring the stability and development of this area is essential to maintain the historical Tamil presence. After being forcibly displaced in 1984 and only permitted to return in 2010, the residents of Thennamaravadi have been working to rebuild their lives. The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) is committed to supporting this resettlement effort by fostering economic opportunities and improving local infrastructure.

As part of this initiative, CTC has launched the Palmyrah Development and Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative in collaboration with the Thennamaravadi Women Rural Development Society (WRDS) and the North and East Economic Development (NEED) Centre. This project leverages the region’s existing palmyrah resources to promote economic stability, financial independence, and job creation for women. CTC is providing initial financial assistance for this projects and assisting in harvesting, processing, and marketing palmyrah-based products. By equipping women with the tools to generate sustainable incomes, this initiative plays a crucial role in fostering long-term economic resilience and self-sufficiency in the community.

In addition to supporting economic development, CTC is also dedicated to enhancing educational infrastructure in Thennamaravadi. During the visit, the delegation toured the Thennamaravadi Government Mixed School, where they met with the principal and teachers. In response to requests from the school administration, CTC has funded essential improvements, including fencing, roof repairs, and the restoration of doors and windows. Furthermore, during this visit CTC has donated furnitures such as office tables, chairs, and cabinets to create a better learning environment for students. The delegation inspected the completed work and discussed additional needs with the school administration. The principal has requested further assistance, and we are committed to continuing its support for the school’s development.

CTC remains steadfast in its mission to strengthen Thennamaravadi both economically and socially, ensuring it thrives as a key connection between the North and East.

பிப்ரவரி 25, செவ்வாய்கிழமை, CTC அதிகாரிகள் மற்றும் அங்கு நடைபெறும் பெண்கள் முன்னேற்றத் திட்டத்தின் நிதி ஆதரவாளர்கள் தென்னமரவாடிக்கு சென்று திட்டத்தின் முன்னேற்றத்தை நேரில் பார்வையிட்டு இந்த செயற்திட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ள பெண்களுடன் கலந்துரையாடி எதிர்கால வளர்ச்சி தொடர்பாக கருத்துகளைப் பெற்றனர்.

தென்னமரவாடி என்பது இலங்கையின் வடக்கு மற்றும் கிழக்கு மாகாணங்களை இணைக்கும் முக்கியமான கிராமமாகும். இந்தப் பகுதி நிலையான வளர்ச்சியடைந்ததாக இருப்பதே இந்த பிரதேசத்தின் தமிழர் இருப்பை உறுதி செய்யும். 1984ல் வலுக்கட்டாயமாக வெளியேற்றப்பட்ட மக்கள் 2010ல் திரும்ப அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டனர். அவர்கள் தங்கள் வாழ்க்கையை மீண்டும் அமைத்துக்கொள்ள போராடி வருகிறார்கள். இந்த மறுவாழ்வு முயற்சியை ஊக்குவிக்கும் வகையில், கனடிய தமிழர் பேரவை பொருளாதார வாய்ப்புகளை உருவாக்கி, உள்ளூரில் தேவையான அடிப்படை வசதிகளை மேம்படுத்த உறுதியாக செயற்பட்டு வருகிறது.

இந்த முயற்சியின் ஒரு பகுதியாக, CTC பனை உற்பத்தி மற்றும் பெண்கள் பொருளாதார சுயேற்பாடு திட்டத்தை தொடங்கியுள்ளது. இந்த திட்டம் தென்னமரவாடி மாதர் கிராமிய அபிவிருத்திச் சங்கம் (WRDS) மற்றும் வடகிழக்கு பொருளாதார மேம்பாட்டு மையம் (NEED Centre) ஆகியவற்றுடன் இணைந்து கனடிய தமிழர் பேரவையின் உதவியுடன் செயற்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. இத்திட்டத்தின் மூலம் இப் பகுதியின் இயற்கையான பனை வளங்களை பயன்படுத்தி மக்களுக்கு பொருளாதார உறுதிப்பாடு, வேலை வாய்ப்புகள் மற்றும் பெண்களிற்கான நிதிச்சுதந்திரத்தையும் ஏற்படுத்திக்கொடுக்க முடியும். CTC இந்தத் திட்டத்திற்கான துவக்க நிதி உதவியளித்து, பனை தொடர்பான விளைபொருட்கள் சேகரிப்பு, தயாரிப்பு மற்றும் சந்தைப்படுத்தலில் உதவவுள்ளது. பெண்கள் தங்களுக்குத் தேவையான திறமைகளை பெற்று, நிலையான வருவாய் ஈட்டுவதற்கான உந்துதலாக இந்தத் திட்டம் அமையும். இது பெண்களின் நீண்ட கால பொருளாதார நிலைத்தன்மைக்கும், குடும்பங்களின் வளர்ச்சிக்கும் உறுதியளிக்கக்கூடியதாக இருக்கும்.

பொருளாதார முன்னேற்றத்துக்கு உதவும் அதேவேளையில் CTC தென்னமரவாடி கல்வி மேம்பாட்டிலும் கவனம் செலுத்தி வருகின்றது. அந்தவகையில் தென்னமரவாடி அரசு கலவன் பாடசாலைக்கும் கனடிய தமிழர் பேரவை பிரதிநிதிகள் விஜயம் மேற்கொண்டிருந்தனர். அதிபர் மற்றும் ஆசிரியர்களிடம் பள்ளியின் தேவைகள் குறித்து கலந்துரையாடலும் இடம்பெற்றிருந்தது. பள்ளியின் கோரிக்கைக்கு ஏற்ப CTC உடனடி தேவைகளுக்கான நிதி உதவியினை வழங்கியிருந்தது. இதில் வேலிகள் அமைத்தல், கூரை பழுதுபார்த்தல், கதவுகள் மற்றும் சாளரங்களை புதுப்பித்தல் போன்றவை அடங்கும். இன்றைய குறித்த சந்திப்பின்போதும் பாடசாலைக்கு தேவையான அலுவலக மேசைகள், நாற்காலிகள், அலமாரிகள் போன்றவையும் நன்கொடையாக வழங்கப்பட்டன. CTC குழு, பள்ளியில் செய்யப்பட்ட பணிகளை நேரில் பார்வையிட்டு, பள்ளி நிர்வாகத்துடன் மேலதிக தேவைகள் குறித்தும் கலந்துரையாடியது. அதிபரினால் மேலும் உதவிகள் கோரப்படிருந்த நிலையில் CTC பாடசாலையின் வளர்ச்சிக்காக தொடர்ந்தும் உதவி செய்ய உறுதியளித்துள்ளது.

கனடிய தமிழர் பேரவை தென்னமரவாடியின் பொருளாதார மற்றும் சமூக முன்னேற்றம் குறித்த தனது பணிகளில் உறுதியாக இருக்கும் என்பதோடு வடக்கு, கிழக்கை இணைக்கும் முக்கிய கிராமமான தென்னமரவாடி நிலைத்திருப்பதற்கும் வளர்ச்சியடைவதற்கும் தொடர்ந்து ஆதரவு வழங்கும்.
