CTC International Women’s Day was celebrated successfully as an in person event after 3 years, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) hosted the International Women’s Day celebration at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel on March 18th, 2023. The celebration provided an opportunity to acknowledge the undeniable contributions of women to social upliftment and celebrate the extraordinary contributions and achievements of women in various field.
Ms. Renu Kulendran, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Public & Business Service Delivery, Government of Ontario graced the occasion with her presence and in her keynote address shared her personal journey. The event also included the presentation of Women in Leadership Award to Dr. Mrs. Selvanayaki Sridas and “Emerging Leader for Women” Award to Ms. Vani Selvarajah.
CTC’ annually presents Women in Leadership award to someone who has achieved success in her profession, contributes time and energy to improve the lives of others, demonstrates exemplary leadership abilities and is a role model and mentor to other women and girls, inspiring them to become future leaders. The Emerging Leader for Women award is presented to someone who obtained academic or professional credentials and/or demonstrated excellence in a chosen field, led community projects and achieved success, and is considered a role model in the community for young women.
Made in Mullaitivu, an initiative by the CTC to economically uplift women in the war effected North East Sri Lanka was launched at the event and handloom sarees produced by these women was displayed.
The event also featured dance performance by K2B dance group and students of Smt. Jenani Kumar’s Shilompoli Shethra Dance Academy.
