Tamil Fest achieves new heights in 2023

புதிய பல சிறப்பம்சங்களோடு நிகழ்ந்தது தமிழர் தெருவிழா 2023

“யாதும் ஊரே யாவரும் கேளிர்” என்பது தமிழர்களின் அறம். அந்தவகையில் கனடிய தமிழர் பேரவை ஏற்பாட்டில் இந்திய துணைக்கண்டத்திற்கு வெளியே நிகழும் மாபெரும் தமிழர் தெருவிழா இந்த ஆண்டு ஒன்பதாவது முறையாக மார்க்கம் வீதியில் ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் 26ஆம் மற்றும் 27ஆம் திகதிகளில் மிக பிரம்மாண்டமாக 250 000 ஆயிரத்திற்கும் மேட்பட்ட மக்கள் கூடி நிகழ்ந்தது.

இந்த நிகழ்வின் பிரதம அதிதியாக இலங்கை பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் கெளரவ மனோ கணேஷன் அவர்களும் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக இந்தியாவில் இருந்து அயலகத் தமிழர் நல வாரியத் தலைவர் கார்த்திகேய சிவசேனாபதி அவர்களும் கலந்துகொண்டனர். தமிழர்கள் செறிந்து வாழும் இந்தியா மற்றும் இலங்கையில் இருந்து மக்கள் பிரதிநிதிகள் தமிழர் தெருவிழாவில் அதிதிகளாக கலந்துகொண்டது மேலும் சிறப்பம்சமாகும்.

இந்த நிகழ்வில் கனடாவின் மிக முக்கியமான அரசியல் தலைவர்கள் பலரும் கலந்துகொண்டனர். அந்தவகையில் கனேடிய மத்திய அமைச்சர் கேரி அனந்தசங்கரி, பன்னாட்டு மேம்பாட்டு மத்திய அமைச்சர் அகமது ஹுசேன்,  கனேடிய பாராளுமன்ற எதிர்க்கட்சி தலைவர் பியர் பொய்லிய்வ்ரே(Pierre Poilievre) ட்ரோண்டோ மாநகர மேயர்ஒலிவியா சோவ், ப்ராம்டன் நகர மேயர் பேட்ரிக் ப்ரௌவ்ன்,பிக்கரிங் நகர மேயர் கெவின் ஆஷ் கலந்து கொண்டு விழாவுக்கு சிறப்பு சேர்த்தனர்.

மேலும் கனேடிய பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் ஷான் சென், சல்மா சஹித் ஒண்டாரியோ மாகாண பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் லோகன் கணபதி, க்ரஹாம் மெக்க்ராகர், ஆண்ட்ரியா ஹேசல், ட்ரோண்டோ மாநகர துணை மேயர் ஜெனிஃபர் மெக்கெல்வி, மாமன்ற உறுப்பினர் ஜமால் மயர்ஸ், மார்க்கம் நகரமன்ற உறுப்பினர் வனிதா நாதன் வருகை தந்து சிறப்புரை ஆற்றினார்கள். இவர்களோடு அமெரிக்க பொருளாதார அரசியல் வெளியுறவுத் துறை அதிகாரி மைக்கேல் பெண்டன், ட்ரோண்டோ அமெரிக்க தூதரக அதிகாரி சூசன் க்ரிஸ்டல் கலந்து கொண்டு சிறப்பித்தனர்.

உள்ளூர் தலைவர்கள் முதல் உலகத் தலைவர்கள் மற்றும் அமெரிக்க, கனேடிய அரசு அதிகாரிகள் என 20க்கும் மேற்பட்ட அரசியல் தலைவர்கள், அரசு அதிகாரிகள் கலந்து கொண்ட 9வது தமிழ்த் திருவிழா தமிழர்கள் வரலாற்றில் ஒரு மைல்கல்.

கடந்த ஒன்பது ஆண்டுகளாக ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் ஆகஸ்ட் மாத இறுதியில் கனடிய தமிழர் பேரவை சார்பில் தமிழர் தெருவிழா நடைபெற்று வருகிறது. மார்க்கம் வீதியில் இரண்டு நாட்களாக நடைபெறும் விழாவில்,  இந்த ஆண்டு பல்வேறு கூடுதல் சிறப்பு அம்சங்கள் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளது.

திருவள்ளுவர் அரங்கம், பாரதியார் அரங்கம், சிவப்பு கம்பள வரவேற்பு அரங்கம் என மூன்று பெரும் அரங்கங்களில் பல்வேறு நிகழ்ச்சிகளுடன் விழா நடைபெற்றது.  தமிழ்த் திரைப்பட பின்னணிப் பாடகர் விஜய் பிரகாஷ், இங்கிலாந்து பின்னணிப் பாடகி மதுலானி, இலங்கையிலிருந்து கோகுலன் சாந்தன் மற்றும் கனேடிய கலைஞர்கள் பங்கேற்பில் மாபெரும் இன்னிசை விருந்து இடம் பெற்றது. தமிழ்நாட்டின் பறை இசை மன்னன் மணிமாறன் மகிழினி குழுவினரின் பறை இசையுடன் தமிழர்களின் பாரம்பரிய இசை நடன நிகழ்ச்சிகள் விழாவுக்கு மணிமகுடம் சூட்டுவதாக அமைந்தது.

இலங்கைப்போரினால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட பெண்களின் வாழ்வாதார முன்னேற்றத்திற்காகவும், பெண்களை தொழில்துறையில் ஈடுபடச்செய்யும் நோக்கத்துடனும் கனடிய தமிழர் பேரவையினால் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட கைத்தறி நெசவு சாரிகள் விற்பனைக்கூடமும், நவீனரசனை மாற்றத்திற்கமைய கைத்தறி சாரியை நவீனத்துவமாக வடிவமைப்பது குறித்த ஒரு பேஷன் அணிவகுப்பும் தமிழர் திருவிழாவில் ஒழுங்கமைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. பாரம்பரியத்தில் நவீனத்துவத்தை இணைக்கும் முயற்சியாக அது பார்க்கப்பட்டதோடு அனைத்து வயதினரையும் உள்ளடக்கியதாகவும் அந்த நிகழ்வு அமைந்திருந்தது சிறப்பம்சமாகும்.

இவைதவிர கருப்பு ஜூலை, தமிழர்களின் கனேடிய குடியேற்றம், இலங்கையில் உள்ள மலையக தமிழர்களின் உரிமைப்போராட்டம் என பல்வேறு கருத்தாக்கத்தில் இடம்பெற்ற காட்சிப்படுத்தல்கள் பார்வையாளர்களை நெகிழச் செய்தது.

நூற்றுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட உணவு அரங்கங்களில் பன்னாட்டு உணவு வகைகள் விழாவுக்கு மேலும் சிறப்பு சேர்த்தது. தன்னார்வ அமைப்புகளும் அரங்கங்கள் அமைத்து தங்கள் சேவைகளை மக்களுக்கு எடுத்துரைத்தன.

வண்ணமயமான 9வது தமிழர் தெருவிழா, தமிழர்களின் பாரம்பரியம்,  கலாச்சாரம், பண்பாடு, ஒற்றுமை மற்றும் எதிர்காலத் திட்டங்களை பறை சாற்றுவதாக அமைந்திருந்தது.

Step into a world of vibrant culture and celebration at the 9th annual Tamil Fest, held on August 26th and 27th, 2023, at the enchanting Markham Road between McNicoll and Passmore. Proudly presented by the Canadian Tamil Congress, this festival was a spectacular fusion of tradition, talent, and togetherness.

The event’s chief guest was Honourable Mano Ganeshan, Member of Parliament from Sri Lanka, and the guest of honor is Karthikeya Sivasenapathy from Tamil Nadu, India, who is the Chairman of the Non-Resident Tamil Welfare Board in Tamil Nadu. Their  participation in Tamil Fest was appreciated by the large audience.

Distinguished political figures graced the occasion, with the likes of Pierre Poilievre, the Leader of the Official Opposition in Canada, and Hon. Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, Toront0 Mayor Olivia Chow, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, and Pickering Mayor Kevin Ash, added their charm to the event. The presence of Hon.Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations, further added to the grandeur.

Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) were in full support, with names such as Shaun Chen, Salma Zahid, Logan Kanapathi, Graham McGregor, and Andrea Hazell gracing the celebration. The City of Toronto contributed its own luminaries, including Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie and the Honorary Chair, Councillor Jamaal Myers. The City of Markham made its mark through Councillor Juanita Nathan, radiating enthusiasm throughout the event.

International representatives also elevated the festival’s global spirit, with Chief of Political and Economic Affairs, Michael L. Benton, and the Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Toronto, Susan R. Crystal, making their presence felt.

Beyond the dignitaries, the festival pulsated with an electrifying energy across three stages: the Thituvalluvar stage, the Barathiyar stage, and the red carpet stage. Mesmerizing performances by renowned talents like Vijay Prakash from India, the enchanting Mathulani from England, and the soulful Kohulan Shanthan from Sri Lanka, in conjunction with local Canadian talents, created an atmosphere of enchantment. With four bands taking the stage, the air was alive with music and celebration.The beating heart of tradition was also showcased through the event’s traditional performances, including the spellbinding Parai music by India’s very own Parai Master, Manimaran. A multicultural hour and a kaleidoscope of cultural performances added depth and resonance.

The festival had a heartwarming Made in Mullaitivu fashion show, breathing life into handloom sarees from Sri Lanka and empowering women who had been touched by war. The event was a living canvas where modernity met heritage, as the new generation donned the attire of old Tamil poets and literary figures in a captivating parade that narrated the story of the past. A journey through the event unveiled exhibits that explored the poignant history of Black July, the saga of Tamil immigration to Canada, and the struggles faced by upcountry Tamils in Sri Lanka, painting an evocative narrative.

The event boasted an impressive array of over 100 diverse vendors, consisting of food, non-food, non-profit charitable organizations, each setting up captivating booths that added an irresistible charm to the atmosphere.  In sum, the 9th annual Tamil Fest was more than an event; it was a symphony of colors, cultures, and aspirations. A tapestry woven with the threads of tradition, the hues of artistry, and the spirit of unity, this festival left an indelible mark, celebrating the rich tapestry of Tamil culture and its universal resonance.
