Seventh Annual Tamil Fest Takes an Innovative Approach with a Drive-In and Virtual Concert in Scarborough
August 26, 2021.
The Seventh Annual Tamil Fest hosted by the Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) Presented by TD and Powered by I-Connect Mortgages will be taking place on Saturday, August 28th and Sunday, August 29th between 5 PM and 11 PM. This year’s Tamil Fest will take an innovative approach in hosting the event in a new location giving attendees the option to attend in-person or virtually.
Tamil Fest is the largest Tamil Street festival outside of the Indian subcontinent and Scarborough’s largest event having attracted over 250,000 attendees in its fifth annual event in August 2019. With the ongoing global pandemic and public health measures in place, this year’s organizers will provide a platform for local talent to showcase their talent at Guildwood GO station parking lot in Scarborough.
The two-day concert will allow several cars to be socially distanced and enjoy the festivities in person. On-site vendors will include traditional Tamil ice cream and cuisine. The event will also be livestreamed on Tamil Fest’s website, YouTube and Facebook.
“Tamil Fest continues to display the resiliency of the Tamil community despite these times. This year’s event will adhere to all health safety protocols. This show provides an outlet for local artists to showcase their talent and share in our evolving ancient culture,” remarked Sivan Ilangko, President of the Canadian Tamil Congress.
